我們與中國的外交關系對我們這個地區的福祉與繁榮是很重要的，我與你們個人之間的關系對當地社區的福祉和繁榮也是很重要的。

原諒我因為在同一時間在Rotorua有一個會議要我作一主講，因而不能出席星期六的慶祝活動。

我期望在今後繼續發展中新兩國的外交關系。

I wish to acknowledge and celebrate the 40 years of diplomatic relations between The People's Republic of China and New Zealand, which was celebrated in Hamilton on Saturday.

We value our diplomatic relationship with China, just as we value the talents, skills, culture and diversity that the Chinese community bring to Hamilton.

Our diplomatic relationship is important for well-being and prosperity of our region and our personal relationships are important for the wellbeing and prosperity of our local community.

Apologies that I could not be present at the celebration on Saturday, as I had a prior commitment as the keynote speaker for a conference in Rotorua at that same time.

I look forward to the continuing development the diplomatic relationship between China and New Zealand into the future.
