新中友協Ian前任會長在聯歡會上的祝詞




尊敬的來賓，朋友們，女士們，先生們：

今天我們很高興邀請到中國駐奧克蘭總領館黎永傳副總領事，龍艷萍領事和陳婉萍領事，以及新西蘭政府代表，國會議員David Benette 先生，Tim Macindeo 先生和副市長 Gordon Chesterman 先生。

幾年前我們非常榮幸的推薦Gordon Chesterman參加新中友協組織的特殊人才赴中國旅遊團。

Distinguished guests, friends, ladies and gentlemen:

We are delighted to be joined today by official representatives of the Chinese Government Deputy Consul-General Li Yongchuan, and Consuls Long Yanping and Chen Wanping from the Consulate- General of the People’s Republic of China in Auckland; and official representatives of the New Zealand Government - Members of Parliament David Bennett, Tim Macindoe, and Sue Maloney; and by our Deputy Mayor Gordon Chesterman, who we were delighted to introduce to the New China a few years ago.

The New Zealand China Friendship Society was founded in 1952 (this year we celebrated our 60th anniversary) with the aims of providing opportunities for New Zealanders (including those of ethnic Chinese origin) to learn about the New China, through public meetings and tours, and to campaign for diplomatic recognition of China by New Zealand. The current aims of our society are:

To promote friendship, understanding and goodwill between the peoples of China and New Zealand by encouraging visits and exchanges of ideas, information, culture and trade between the two countries

To foster interest in and promote the study of China, its history, culture, political and social structures – past and present

To support specific aid projects in China

To promote the study of the Chinese language by New Zealanders and advanced English studies in this country by Chinese

To foster on-going development of all sister-city links between New Zealand and China

To assist both visiting students and new migrants from China requiring help to fit in to New Zealand society

Our Society now has 12 branches in New Zealand.

It was not until 1971 that the United Nations admitted the People’s Republic of China to its membership.

The New Zealand International Conference on Chinese Studies organised by Professor Dov Bing (former President of our Hamilton Branch and currently Professor in the Department of Political Science & Public Policy at the University of Waikato) and hosted by the University of Waikato on 17 to 20 May 1972 was a major catalyst to the full establishment of diplomatic relations in December of that year.

We are honoured and excited to join you all today to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between New Zealand and China, the 63rd Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China, and the traditional Mid-Autumn festival. Congratulations and thank you.
