Happy year of the Monkey to all members of our Chinese communities in Hamilton and the Waikato!  

It is a privilege and delight to be Mayor of Hamilton, a city which is home to more than 160 ethnicities. Our rich cultural diversity is a source of great pride.  The Chinese communities in our city and region are very active and engaged groups and many are of very long standing. I often have the pleasure of meeting with you and joining you to celebrate special cultural events. 

I know that Chinese New Year is an extremely significant event in the Chinese calendar and I am always delighted to hear about and participate in events organised to celebrate this wonderful occasion. Events such as the Lantern Festival and the Chinese Moon Festival bring colour, vibrancy and excitement to the city and are asource of fun and enjoyment for all who have the opportunity to experience them. Whether you are a resident of the region or here on a more temporary basis, I hope your celebrations to welcome the Year of the Monkey are full of fun and blessings for the year ahead. 

I wish you, your families and loved ones both here and in China, a happy, safe and prosperous year of the Monkey.
